At Point B, "Own It" is more than just a value — it's a mindset that shapes how we approach our work, our people, and our customers. By being proactive, collaborating together, and embracing challenges as opportunities, we help build an enduring company.
"Own It" is about showing up with the mindset that every action, decision, and initiative matters in the bigger picture. It's about going beyond, taking the initiative to proactively solve problems, and contributing to the growth of those around us.
Hear from a few Point B’ers about how our value of “Own It” shows up in their day-to-day.
Owning It in Action
Chris Lau, a Senior Consultant at Point B, exemplified the "Own It" value when working with a global food and beverage company. His team was tasked with creating a dashboard to track the company’s food donation efforts to local food banks. What initially appeared to be a straightforward request quickly revealed deeper challenges with the company’s data curation process. Instead of providing a short-term fix, Chris and his team proposed a more sustainable, automated solution.
"We found that their data curation process was unsustainable and prone to human errors and inconsistencies," Chris explained. "Rather than just temporarily fixing their current curation process, we proposed going beyond and building an automated process to integrate their internal data and data from their external donation partners."
By taking ownership of the problem, Chris and his team delivered a long-term solution that not only improved data accuracy but also empowered the company to make a greater social impact through its food donation programs. "It was a privilege to design and build a product that furthered their mission and highlighted the quantitative impact of it. Seeing how individuals’ bandwidth was reallocated from manual data wrangling to growing the impact and operational excellence of the program was incredibly satisfying."
Ownership is a Mindset
For Kirsten Markley, owning it at Point B means more than completing tasks — it’s about fostering a continuous improvement mindset. Whether it's learning from new colleagues or finding new ways to improve existing processes, Kirsten believes that ownership drives growth.
"When we recently hired someone new to the team, I was eager to learn from them," she shared. "Not only were we training him, but we were also taking in new and different ways of doing things. To me, ownership includes a mindset of continuously improving, learning, and growing."
Kirsten’s analogy of being an owner versus a renter perfectly captures the essence of this value. "When you rent something, you don't care as much. But as an owner, you take the initiative to fix anything that isn't working because you care deeply about the outcome."
Chris and Kirsten are just 2 examples of the many Point B’ers who have fully embraced this core value in their daily work and approach to every challenge. It's not just about completing tasks—it's about driving meaningful outcomes, being accountable, and contributing to collective success. Learn about our other core values here.
