Challenge
Following the merger of 2 large aerospace and defense technology companies, our customer’s complex, siloed data systems were difficult to navigate, leaned heavily on time-consuming manual processes, and limited access to timely, actionable insights. Recognizing the need for a solution, the organization’s leaders partnered with Point B to evaluate, design, and implement an integrated data and business intelligence platform that would ultimately increase the quality of actionable insights while saving $5M annually.

Opportunity
We partnered to assess legacy data ecosystems across their largest business segment, provide a high-level data governance framework, and design a strategic architecture and roadmap to consolidate data in a single environment. Our dynamic team brought aerospace, data & analytics, and tech transformation expertise together to ensure success.
Approach
We conducted an end-to-end assessment of key data assets across functional areas, using detailed, client-informed personas to identify resource dependencies. Our findings helped us develop targeted recommendations that would make current-state processes faster, leaner, and less costly. After sharing our findings, we hosted future-state ideation sessions to define a mission, vision, and strategic future-state architecture. We partnered to develop an enterprise data program customized to the organization’s needs and informed by best practices. Then we defined a modern, scalable, use-case-driven platform that would integrate with the organization’s recent acquisitions, evaluating potential vendors on potential ROI across 4 factors:
- Employee engagement
- Productivity
- Cost reduction
- Risk reduction
Finally, we recommended the ideal data platform vendor to help the organization reach its goals.
Project Outcomes
Our client has already seen a marked improvement in streamlining and consolidating segment data, including:
- Improved visibility: Better tracking of quality metrics like Escape Events, COPQ (cost of poor quality), DDPM (Defective Parts per Million), FPY (First-Pass Yield), and more.
- Reduced manual processes: Efficiencies gained from implementing actionable data governance, roles & responsibilities, and data management best practices
- Annual cost savings: An estimated $5M saved within the first year
Going forward, we’re partnering to help the organization expand its analytical capabilities and insights. From providing implementation advisory to leading a cross-segment data governance initiative, our solutions-oriented approach ensures that our customer’s leaders are empowered and prepared for continued growth.
