- Lack of technical expertise and understanding of data systems
- Uncertainty around materiality of various emissions sources
- Uncertainty around how to align with potential technology tools
- Lack of alignment among internal stakeholders
Although the sustainability team had worked for over 6 months to determine what they needed to report, they struggled to understand the company’s systems holding data and how that related to GHG reporting requirements.
The sustainability team had identified 17 Scope 1 and 2 emissions sources but couldn’t determine the significance of each given their lack of transparency into company assets and equipment. They also needed guidance on how to screen and eventually calculate emissions from various sources (small equipment, generators, HVACs, etc.).
The team was considering adopting 3rd party reporting software but didn’t know if and how this tool would align with their data or what new processes they’d need to establish.
Cross-departmental stakeholders needed help aligning on best practices and establishing efficient processes for gathering the data needed for compliant reporting.
